  • Burrowing Owls at Martinez Beaver Festival

Yeah, I know.  Even my wife was telling me about my lack of recent burrowing owl, wildlife and ocean posts.  I’ve been busy getting things ready as I move forward with Earth island Institute and putting together the details for our first official booth as the Burrowing Owl Conservation Network.  The funny thing is that I have so much to tell yet the blogs sit idle.  Even at this very second I am putting the final touches on a rush order for brochures.

In the meantime, here are a few details about the Martinez Beaver Festival III that will launch our Network to the world so to speak. By all means stop by for a chat and I look forward to seeing everyone in Martinez, CA.

Looking for a dam good time? Why not visit the third annual Beaver Festival in historic Martinez: August 7th from 11:00 – 4:00.

This free family event is located at the corner of Alhambra Avenue and Marina Vista Streets. The celebration features 5 live bands, more than thirty environmental displays, children’s activities and guided beaver tours. The first 100 children can earn wildlife charms for a unique “Keystone Species” charm bracelet by learning how beavers improve their habitat. Artists will help children paint a two-part acrylic mural of Alhambra Creek. The California Revels and Deer Creek Morris Dancers will accompany a procession to unfurl the new “beaver banner”, brightly illustrated by nearly 100 Bay Area children. Renowned naturalist Doc Hale will lead a “riparian walk” for junior naturalists (young and old). Proceeds from a silent auction will benefit the beavers and will feature donated puppets from Folkmanis, tickets to wildlife events, a gift basket from Castoro Cellars and an overnight tour at Safari West.

The new memorial for Mother beaver will be fondly displayed. Come bring your family and friends to remind yourself why the Martinez Beavers are Worth A Dam. For more information visit martinezbeavers.org
